Antarctic Peninsula CNN —About 15 billion miles from where you sit, two 12-inch golden records are hurtling through outer space with multilingual greetings to the universe from 55 humans and one humpback whale. It feels like “a mosquito bite” to the whales, Johnson said, but what they can test for is priceless: from stress hormones to toxins to — most importantly — pregnancy rates. That’s how critics have described White Christian nationalism, a deviant strain of religion that has infected the political mainstream. But there is another cost to the spread of White Christian nationalism that no one mentions. The relentless coverage of White Christian nationalism is spreading a racist myth: that Whiteness is the default setting for evangelical Christianity. In a February 2023 survey, nearly two-thirds of White evangelical Protestants qualified as sympathizers or adherents to Christian nationalism. However, he rejects the political beliefs associated with White Christian nationalism.

NEW YORK (AP) — N. Scott Momaday, a Pulitzer Prize-winning storyteller, poet, educator and folklorist whose debut novel "House Made of Dawn" is widely credited as the starting point for contemporary Native American literature, has died. “His Kiowa heritage was deeply meaningful to him and he devoted much of his life to celebrating and preserving Native American culture, especially the oral tradition." Like Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22,” Momaday’s novel was a World War II story that resonated with a generation protesting the Vietnam War. Addressing a gathering of American Indian scholars in 1970, Momaday said, “Our very existence consists in our imagination of ourselves.” He championed Natives' reverence for nature, writing that "the American Indian has a unique investment in the American landscape." Audio guides to tours of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of the American Indian featured Momaday's avuncular baritone.

LIMA, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Peru's government on Thursday announced a package of more than two dozen new measures aimed at boosting investments in the Andean nation, which has been hit by a recession. Economy Minister Alex Contreras said the measures included moves to attract investments to the country's critical mining sector and boosting mining production. 2 copper producer slid into recession this year due to the El Nino weather phenomenon, lower private investment and lingering effects from earlier social conflicts. With the fresh stimulus, Peru's economy will still be able to hold the country's fiscal deficit to its goal of 2.4% of GDP this year, Contreras said. "We're looking to create a jolt of confidence, for the private sector to understand that the government is committed to reactivating the economy," he said.

A worker walks pasts the logo of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) inside its headquarters building in Lima, Peru June 16, 2017. The bank's third consecutive cut comes as the rate of rising consumer prices has been coming down. But the latest decision to cut rates does not necessarily imply a cycle of successive rate reductions, the monetary authority said in a statement. It added that future adjustments to the key lending rate "will be conditioned on new information on inflation and its determinants." September 28 - Tyrone Taylor doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 3-2 victory over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. The Cardinals loaded the bases in the eighth against Andrew Chafin, who relieved Joel Payamps to start the inning. Contreras doubled to open the inning and Taylor followed with an RBI double, continuing to third on a throwing error by leftfielder Richie Palacios. The Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but Brewers starter Wade Miley avoided a big inning, allowing just one run. Nootbaar singled on a dribbler to short, Herrera singled to center, and Juniel Querecuto reached on a bunt to load the bases.

September 27 - Miles Mikolas allowed one run over seven innings to pace the visiting St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-1 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday night, but the Brewers still clinched the National League Central title. The Brewers entered the contest with a six-game lead over the Cubs with six games remaining. Brewers starter Adrian Houser (7-5) allowed four runs on three hits in five innings, striking out five and walking two. Houser retired the first nine hitters he faced before St. Louis broke through in the fourth. St. Louis made it 4-1 in the fifth.

The Brewers have reached the playoffs five of the last six years, the exception coming last season. There’s a sense of urgency associated with this playoff berth because of the long-term uncertainty surrounding some key figures. The Brewers were one win away from the World Series in 2018 when they lost a Game 7 at home to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but they haven’t won a postseason series since. Although Milwaukee owns a combined 2-10 record against the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers — the NL’s top two playoff seeds — the Brewers’ pitching gives them reason for optimism. The Brewers have lost seven of their last eight postseason games, a stretch that started with that Game 7 defeat in 2018.
